for sale

The world’s largest record collection is for sale. Millions of albums-far more than even the Library of Congress owns-have been put up for auction on eBay. Starting bid is 3M but the collection is estimated at over 50M. If I had a few spare million I would be all over it, but, as it stands, I don’t. The auction is almost up; I hope the collection finds some appreciative hands.

The owner/collector is the proprietor of Record-Rama in Pittsburgh. Here is some coverage from the CSM.

Here is a pretty solid rundown of auto manufacturers’ logo designs throughout the years. It’s nice to see the parallels of past design across brands in the different eras. Many logos started out as intricate crests (though the Japanese were always remarkable simplified) but all arrived at the streamlined, beveled look they have today. In the past, companies had a print mark and car ornament mark, but full-color printing has made it possible to always represent exactly what is displayed on the car. Bevels!

Puzzle game: Set

set
Set is a simple puzzle game that I first played recently. It can be played on the internet, on paper, or with a deck of cards. The rules are simple: makes sets that are either all the same or all different in up to four ways. The New York Times has daily puzzles and an explanation on how to play, and there are more in-depth instructions here.

I like the game, and, though I don’t have a real strategy, I find myself thinking in ways that are similar to when I try sudoku.
